September 25, 2004 - Gala dinner - Pink Sands
and Bluegrass fundraiser for the Four Harmony Foundation.
"Pink Sands and Bluegrass" will provide support needed
for continued funding of our non-profit foundation to continue
to provide these services. It will be a magical evening that
incorporates the mood, music and food of both the pink sands
of Bermuda and the bluegrass of Kentucky. Our Chef will prepare
dishes that are indicative of their respective cultures, and
music from both cultures will be represented.
A silent auction will be held which will include a three day
stay at the beautiful "Reefs" hotel in Bermuda. The
package also includes morning horse back ride, glass bottom
boat tour to the reefs, brunch at the at Henry VIII Pub and
much more. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the evening.
The gala is the opening night of our innovative 2 day educational
symposium.

"In Honor of the Horse" is a symposium dedicated to
learning about communicating with horses, horsemanship, training,
riding, nutrition, biomechanics and health management, equine
assisted therapy and personal development.
The biographies are followed by the name of lecture/demonstration.
Chris Irwin is one of the most successful horse whisperers
in North America. Chris travels extensively coaching both horses
and riders in the non resistance bonding process he has developed
over the last two decades. He writes regularly for equestrian
magazines and is the best selling author of "Horses Don't
Lie". A trainer of trainers, his teaching methods are creative,
multidimensional, and the scope and impact of his coaching reaches
far beyond the borders of the horse industry. Called THE RENAISSANCE
HORSEMAN, Chris is an intriguing messenger who is ushering in
a new wave of information throughout the international equestrian
scene.

Judith M. Shoemaker, DVM, is an Internationally known practitioner
and educator in complementary veterinary medicine and therapy,
Dr. Shoemaker is a certified veterinary acupuncturist through
the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society and a charter
member of the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association.
Dr. Shoemaker's commitment to supporting the balance that allows
optimal health for all beings has led to her current holistic
practice and teaching of chiropractic, acupuncture and farriery.
Introduction to Bio-mechanical and Neurologic Management
Chris Cahill, DVM, is a 1973 graduate of Texas A&M
University College of Veterinary Medicine. With many years of
experience in equine management Dr. Cahill completed the International
Veterinary Acupuncture Society certification course in 1992 and
has been in private practice here in Lexington since that time.
His practice is exclusively equine acupuncture seeing both the
thoroughbred racehorse and sport horse clientele.

Dysbiosis in Horses
Kirsten Johnston represents Kesmarc, LLC, a therapy center
in Lexington, Kentucky housing a revolutionary hyperbaric oxygen
chamber. Equine medicine now has the opportunity to utilize
this adjunctive therapy to speed healing in equine injuries
and illnesses, and to successfully treat many such injuries
and illnesses which were previously thought untreatable.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
Mimi Porter received an MS degree in 1975 from the University
of Kentucky and was certified by the National Athletic Trainers
Association. In 1982, Equine Therapy, Inc. was founded with
the goal of providing the same skilled sports medicine for the
equine athlete. In 1996, Mimi served as the staff equine therapist
at the Atlanta Olympic Games. In 1999, Mimi developed the first
college curriculum in equine therapy, which is being taught
at Midway College, Kentucky.
Equine Therapy
Doreen Hudson, co-founder Respond Systems, has a Bachelor
of Science degree from Skidmore College, and has taken graduate
courses at Syracuse University and Wesleyan University. She will
be explaining how pulsing magnetic field therapy systems and how
therapeutic laser systems can help our equine and canine friends
heal their injuries more rapidly.

Tom Swerzek, DVM, is a veterinary pathologist in the Department
of Veterinary Science, University of Kentucky. He has discovered
the etiology and pathogenesis of diseases of animals of many
different species. His studies include the relationship between
nutrition and infectious and metabolic diseases of livestock.
His research has shown that mineral and electrolyte imbalances
play an important part in the development of many diseases.
Enhancement of Natural Healing
Lee Follett, IAED/C, is an equine dental technician
certified by the International Association of Equine Dentistry
and a 1999 graduate of The American School of Equine Dentistry.
He currently practices in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan,
and Kentucky. Lee lectures frequently for Purina Mills, colleges,
and various horse clubs in an effort to share the advancements
of modern equine dentistry and its relationship to the performance
of the horse.
Proper Equine Dentistry
Carol Brett, co-founder of BALANCE organization UK.
Carol is an accomplished rider and trainer. She will present
a thought provoking and informative lecture/demo which addresses
some of the 'all to common' saddle related disabilities
seen in the ridden horse. Because of the unbalanced emphasis
on rider comfort for many years, most modern saddles and
saddle fitting methods inhibit natural patterns of movement
and weight distribution that even the most talented rider
cannot over-ride (excuse the pun!).
Saddling for the 21st Century
Dehra H. Glueck, MD, double majored in philosophy and biology
at Washington University in St. Louis, then attended medical school
at the University of Arkansas. Dr. Glueck is currently completing
a residency combining primary care pediatrics with adult, child,
and adolescent psychiatry. Having completed an internship in Equine
Facilitated Psychotherapy at Epona Equestrian Services in Tucson,
Arizona Dr. Glueck is integrating an understanding for the development
of effective therapy in this rapidly growing field.
Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy - Principles and Practice
Kay Cansler holds a Master's in Education degree from the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and specialty certifications
in the area of Reboundolgogy, Lymphology and Certified Nutritional
Consulting. With Dr. Young, founder of Young Living Essential
Oils, her training included the science and application of oils,
distillation and the chemistry of oils. Additionally, she had
the honor of studying with Dr. Jean Claude Lapraz and Dr. Daniel
Penoel, two of the world's leading authorities on essential
oils from France.

Deborah Bowerman-Davies has made working with people and training
horses her life long path As a rider she has competed internationally,
and she has studied biomechanics, and mental and emotional development
of horses both in competition and a non-competitive environment..
Deborah holds numerous instructor certifications and uses her
many abilities and experiences to help change the life of horses
and people.

Trina McGuire our Farm Manager wears many "hats"
everyday! Trina teaches beginners, conducts farm tours and is
responsible for the health and well being of all the horses
at Pine Knoll Farm. Because of Trina and her excellent staff
Pine Knoll Farm is the happy, healthy place it is.
Pamela Shirley, MD, graduated from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.S. in zoology and a medical
degree (MD). She completed her psychiatric training at the UK
College of Medicine and is Board Certified in Child, Adolescent
and Adult Psychiatry. She is developing the equine-assisted
psychotherapy and personal development services at the farm.
Riyad Gandhy is a respected trainer and instructor with
extensive experience with top dressage trainers. He has spent
the past three years training and riding with International
Coach/Judge, Olympic three-day event rider Jim Graham.
